In mail order, products are usually ordered online, by e-mail or by telephone. The products are not offered in local retail outlets, but via a catalogue or the internet. Sales via auction platforms such as eBay are also classified as mail order. From a legal point of view, these are usually distance contracts within the meaning of section 312c of the German Civil Code (BGB) in which the consumer has a right of withdrawal.
